How to solve the constant dripping of bathroom faucet
Posted on April 01 2022
Dripping of sanitary faucet is the most common problem of water pipe and one of the easiest problems to repair. However, many people ignore this problem and don't repair the dripping bathroom faucet, but don't realize that it may waste a lot of money. Continuous dripping water will be wasted in a short time. I don't know how much water cost. Multiply the water cost wasted by each sanitary faucet by the number of sanitary faucets dripping in your home, and you can calculate how much money you have is "flowing" into the sewer. And the dripping water from the hot bathroom faucet will waste even more, because you pay to heat the water before it flows into the sewer.
How to solve the problem of dripping water from bathroom faucets? Dripping water is caused by leakage of water supply. Don't forget that the water supply enters your home after pressurization. Therefore, when the handle of the bathroom faucet is in the "off" position, there must be an impermeable gasket to block the incoming water. This gasket is usually formed by pressing the gasket tightly on the sanitary faucet seat. Obviously, if there is something wrong with the washer or sanitary faucet seat, some water can seep out and drip out of the sanitary faucet. In order to prevent such a sanitary faucet from dripping, you usually only need to replace the washer or repair the sanitary faucet seat.
How to repair the dripping of bathroom faucet? The first thing you have to do is turn off the water supply. You should just turn off a water supply valve near the bathroom faucet to turn off the water supply, but if not every bathroom faucet in your house is equipped with a water supply valve, you have to turn off the main water supply valve to turn off all the water supply in your house.
Solve the problem of dripping water from the sanitary faucet: press type sanitary faucet
No matter what kind of appearance the push-on sanitary faucet has, whether it has two handles for cold and hot water or only one handle for controlling cold and hot water at the same time, it works according to some basic principles. The following describes how to disassemble a press bathroom faucet and repair the dripping problem:
Required tools: use these tools to deal with the press bathroom faucet - screwdriver, penetrating lubricant, carp pliers or adjustable wrench and the pad to be replaced.
Step 1: turn off the water supply and remove the small screw on or behind the handle of the sanitary faucet to remove the handle fixed on the main body of the sanitary faucet. Some screws are hidden under metal buttons, plastic buttons or plastic sheets, which snap or screw into the handle. As long as you open the button, you will see the handle screw installed on the top. If necessary, use some penetrating lubricant like WD-40 specification to loosen the screws.
Step 2: remove the handle and view the components of the bathroom faucet. Remove the packing nut with carp pliers or adjustable wrench. Be careful not to leave scratches on the metal. Turn the spool or shaft in the same direction as when you turn on the bathroom faucet to screw them off.
Step 3: remove the screws fixing the washer. If necessary, use penetrating oil to loosen the screws. Check the screw and valve element. If it is damaged, replace it with a new one.
Step 4: replace the old washer with an identical new washer. The new washer that almost exactly matches the old washer can generally make the bathroom faucet no longer drip. You should also notice whether the old washer has an inclined or flat, and replace it with the same new washer. The gasket designed only for cold water will expand violently when hot water flows through, so as to block the water outlet and slow the flow of hot water. Some washers as like as two peas are available in hot and cold water, but make sure that the washer you bought is exactly the same as the original one.
Step 5: fix the new gasket on the valve core, and then reinstall the components in the sanitary faucet. Rotate the spool clockwise. After the valve core is in place, reinstall the packing nut. Be careful not to scratch the metal with the wrench.
Step 6: reinstall the handle and replace the button or disc. Turn on the water supply again and check whether there is any water leakage.
Solve the dripping problem of sanitary faucet 2: sanitary faucet seat
If the sanitary faucet still drips after you change a washer, there may be a problem with the seat of the sanitary faucet. A damaged washer may cause the seat of the sanitary faucet to become uneven due to wear by the metal valve core, or the deposition of chemicals in the water may form residues, which makes the washer unable to fully compress with the seat.
How to repair the broken bathroom faucet seat? Of course, you can change the whole bathroom faucet. Another option is to replace only the bathroom faucet seat. If you have the right tool, called the seat tension wrench, it is easy to remove the old seat. Insert the valve seat tension wrench into the valve seat, and then pull it counterclockwise. Once you remove the old valve seat, please make sure that the new valve seat you buy is exactly the same as the original one. If the seat cannot be removed, insert a seat sleeve that slides into the old seat and provides a seal. There are two types of seat rollers or grinders that can flatten worn seats.
Another option is to use a seat roller or grinder, which is a cheap tool to flatten worn seats. When using this tool, be careful not to use too long or too much force, because the valve seat is made of soft metal, you can easily wear it off too much.
When using the grinder, first remove the valve core of the sanitary faucet and insert the valve seat roller downward into the valve seat in the sanitary faucet body. Rotate the tool clockwise several times with moderate force. Then use a cloth to clean the metal chips falling from the valve seat.
Solve the dripping problem of sanitary faucet three: the sealing ring of sanitary faucet
Dripping occurs when the bathroom faucet is turned off; Leakage occurs when there is water in the bathroom faucet. If you see water pouring out from around the handle, your bathroom faucet is leaking; The first thing to do is to make sure that the packing nut of the sanitary faucet is tight, but be careful not to scratch the nut with pliers or wrench.
The following are the tools you need to replace the sealing ring of sanitary faucet: adjustable wrench, replaced sealing ring of sanitary faucet and vaseline.
If you find that the cause of water leakage is not the loose nut, you need to replace the sealing ring. The sealing ring of the sanitary faucet can be a tight sealing ring composed of one or more O-shaped rubber rings, or something like string or soft metal wire wound on the valve core under the packing nut.
When replacing the sealing ring of sanitary faucet, follow the following steps:
Step 1: turn off the water supply and remove the sanitary faucet handle.
Step 2: unscrew the packing nut and remove the nut and the old sealing ring from the valve core.
Step 3: install a new sealing ring. If you use a linear sealing material, wrap it around the valve core several times. If it is a sealing material such as soft metal wire, it is only wrapped around the valve core.
Before you reassemble the sanitary faucet, apply a thin layer of vaseline oil on the threads of the valve core and the threads of the packing nut.
Solve the dripping of sanitary faucet IV. O-ring of sanitary faucet
The bathroom faucet in the kitchen has one or more O-rings to prevent water from gushing around the outlet. If the O-ring is worn, you will see water flowing out at the bottom of the water outlet every time you turn on the bathroom faucet.
The following tools are needed to replace the O-ring: adjustable wrench, water pipe joint tape and replaced O-ring.
Procedure for replacing O-rings:
Step 1: turn off the water supply, rotate counterclockwise and remove the threaded coupling nut fixing the water outlet. Be sure to wrap the nut with tape to prevent it from being scratched by pliers or wrench.
Step 2: after removing the coupling nut, lift the water outlet upward and take it out of the water outlet seat. You can see these rings in the water outlet seat.
Step 3: replace the defective ring with a new ring of exactly the same size. Reassemble the bathroom faucet.
Through the treatment of the above methods, the problem of dripping from the bathroom faucet has been basically solved. I hope it will be helpful to you.
