Have you ever wondered if black chrome-plated faucets will fade over time or easily show water stains? Or how do they differ from standard PVD black plating? At the YOROOW faucet factory in China, with over 12 years of production experience, we frequently hear these questions. Taking our 9000B9-030S4 single-hole cold water basin faucet as an example, here are the detailed answers.
1. The Importance of Stainless Steel Far Exceeds Most People’s Imagination
This faucet is made of high-quality stainless steel, not brass or zinc alloy. This choice is crucial, especially in areas with hard water. Stainless steel helps prevent internal corrosion and avoids the “green water” problem caused by copper ion oxidation. Its smooth surface and chemically stable properties mean that pretreatment such as electrolysis and activation is required before plating to ensure a strong and durable coating.
2. The Real Meaning of “Black Chrome Plating”
Black chrome plating is not paint, but a physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating. In a vacuum environment, chromium ions combine with the surface to form a hard, ultra-thin metallic ceramic layer. We first apply a glossy chrome undercoat to enhance its depth and improve corrosion resistance, so even with minor surface abrasion, the chrome plating protects the faucet.
3. How durable is it in actual use?
According to the test results of YOROOW’s dual quality testing system (high-pressure air test + high-pressure water test), the black chrome plating excels in the following three key areas:
* Fingerprint and water stain resistance: The dense, hydrophobic surface makes everyday water stains and fingerprints easy to wipe away, generally easier to maintain than traditional polished chrome plating.
* Scratch and corrosion resistance: The PVD coating is extremely hard. Daily cleaning with a soft cloth will not scratch the surface. Long-term acid salt spray testing shows that even under harsh conditions with humidity far exceeding that of a typical bathroom, no visible corrosion occurs.
* Chemical corrosion resistance: The surface is resistant to common household cleaners (except strong acids or alkalis) and will not discolor or deteriorate under normal use.
A faucet is not just a decoration, but also an everyday necessity. The choice of materials and manufacturing process ultimately determine its lifespan.
